Even if dark lips happen to be the trend, fair women almost never look pretty in purple or nearly black lipstick; it is in too high a contrast to their skin tone. Brighter or lighter shades are more flattering. Women with darker skin, however, look amazing in dark-toned lip color.
The Brown Liner Syndrome: In the 1980s, all aspects of makeup including lip color went brown. One popular â€œbrownâ€ way to apply lipstick involved using a dark brown pencil markedly darker than the lip color itself to outline the lips. Some women continue to use this technique, which, I find, looks dated.
