The first ever Dubai Design Week in association with Dubai Design District (D3) took place between October 26-31, 2015. Spread across the sprawling city, the event saw imaginative designs and fresh product launches by both regional and international brands and artists, followed by meaningful workshops and inspiring talks. Among 47 projects from the world’s leading design schools was Aldana Ferrer Garcia’s More Sky, part of the construction category for New York based Pratt University. Meant as a solution to dense urban living, the window system is an attachable module available in three versions – our favourite is the Casement Window that functions as a vertical enclosure where the user can sit and “hang out”.
ABWAB: PAKIsTAN PAVILION
In each sand built pavilion, six countries of the MENASA region explored the theme of “Games: The Element of Play in Culture”. Curated by Salman Jawed, co-founder of Karachi based Coalesce Design Studio, Daalaan captured the country’s traditional courtyards where objects and silk screens depicting popular pastimes such as ludo, lattoo (turning tops) and kanchay (marble boards) were presented in terracotta shades.
