How soon do I need to see my GP pregnancy?
There is no obligation to see your GP when you first discover you are pregnant but it’s a good idea to make an appointment so you can talk through any potential problems that may arise or any concerns, and discuss which screening tests and scans you want to have. You will also need to discuss the care options available to you, which vary from one Primary Care Trust to another. Generally speaking, whichever hospital you choose to give birth in – if that is where you decide to have your baby -your first appointment will be the initial âœbooking-inâ
visit towards the end of your first trimester. This probably feels like a long way away, particularly if this is your first pregnancy. However, the sooner you see your GP, the more advance notice you will be given of the initial appointment. In the meantime, your GP can advise and support you through the initial stages of pregnancy.
