Today we’re gonna learn how to do this mermaid infinity braid. I think this is beautiful, and I decided to show you on my hair and on my curly hair wig so you can get an idea of what it would look like on different hair types. I hope you guys enjoy this, let’s get right into it. Start by taking a large section of hair from the top of your head and splitting it in two. Then you’re gonna grab a little piece of hair and make an infinity sign between those two sections of hair. If you’ve never done an infinity braid before, I actually did a detailed breakdown post of it, so I’ll link that if you wanna check it out. But essentially, you’re just going to braid three to four inches, and then we’re gonna switch to a French fishtail braid.
It’s the same thing as a fishtail braid, but you’re bringing in some new hair as you go. So on the right side I’m picking up a small piece of hair, and then I’m picking up some hair from the right section of my braid like I would do in a fishtail braid. And then I’m moving both of those sections over to the other side. And then you’re ready to do the same thing again. You’re gonna pick up a small piece from the left side of your head, bring it back, and pick up a small piece of hair from the left side of your braid.

Then just braid both of those over. And you’re gonna continue just like that, just picking up those sections, and then fishtail braiding with those new sections just as you normally would. And you’re gonna do this about three times on each side, and once you’ve done that, we’re ready to switch back to an infinity braid. To switch, all you have to do is pick up a new piece of hair from one of your sections and start figure eight braiding with that, and you are back into your infinity braid. This is gonna be roughly another two to three inches, and then you’re gonna go back to your French fishtail braiding. We’re gonna transition back into that just like we did before by picking up a small piece of hair, picking up your braiding section, and braiding both over.
And when you’re fishtail braiding, make sure that you’re taking large enough sections so that when you’re done fishtail braiding, all of the hair is incorporated into the braid and there’s no hair left hanging out anywhere. Then go back to your infinity braid and do that as far as you want to. I did about halfway down the rest of the hair I had. And then you just secure it with an elastic. Now, on curly hair, it’s actually all the same steps. This is one of the rare occasions where I’m not gonna give you any modifications. Maybe a little bit of leave-in conditioner or detangler to make separating sections easier. But in general, this braid is very much the same for all hair types. And that’s it for this hairstyle. I hope you guys enjoyed it. I haven’t done an intricate braid in what feels like forever, so I hope you liked it.
