A powerful fighter of bacteria and viruses, sandalwood essential oil, offers a host of benefits to the skin when properly applied. Let’s consider a few of these applications.
To fight rashes, itchiness or inflammation, combine 3-7 drops of sandalwood, one teaspoon of lime juice and one teaspoon of turmeric powder. Apply thinly to the skin and leave for 20- 30 minutes. Rinse with cool water and pat gently to dry. Redness or swelling may take time to subside but itchiness should quickly fade.
Sandalwood helps to even skin tone so if you have uneven tans, mix 7-10 drops of sandalwood with five teaspoons of coconut oil and two teaspoons of jojoba oil. Massage this blend into overexposed areas.
For pimples and acne, combine 3 to 7 drops of sandalwood essential oil, one teaspoon of spring water or rosewater and one teaspoon of turmeric powder. Apply thinly to the skin and leave for about thirty minutes. Rinse face with lukewarm water and gently dry. Do this one or two times daily and noticeable changes will be observed after only 48 hours.

An excellent moisturizer, sandalwood can aid dry skin. For specific areas, just apply 1-2 diluted drops to skin and massage. For a full body application, dilute with a carrier oil like jojoba oil and your skin will feel soft and hydrated.
To treat bug bite, mix 5 to 7 drops of sandalwood with one teaspoon of lavender oil, one teaspoon of turmeric and just enough water for a paste. Apply this paste to the bug bite immediately to reduce swelling and stop itching.
In addition, sandalwood oil is helpful for respiratory problems via steam inhalation. It is also great for conditioning dry hair. Simply apply 4-6 drops of it to your hair after a shower and your hair will be moisturized, soft and shiny.
