Thanks to Jean Argus for sharing her secret formula and technique for making this cream. This is a rich, nourishing, reparative moisturizer for day and night use. Combines the therapeutic properties of herbs with the oils of blue chamomile and rose hip seed oil.
3 teaspoons roses 1 teaspoon lavender
1/2 teaspoon dill 1 teaspoon plantain
2 teaspoons calendula 1 1/2 cups sweet almond oil
1 teaspoon passion flower 1 oz. beeswax
1 teaspoon comfrey leaf 1 teaspoon blue chamomile essential
1/2 teaspoon lemon balm oil
2 teaspoons chamomile 1 teaspoon rose hip seed oil
1/2 teaspoon hibiscus 1 teaspoon borax
1 teaspoon nettle 20 drops honeysuckle flower essence
1/2 teaspoon parsley
Part One: Make herbal infusion with the dried herbs by placing them in a glass jar and pouring boiling water over them, allowing water to be half an inch above the herbs. Cover the jar and let steep overnight. Strain the infusion and use 1 cup per batch of cream. The leftover infusion makes a delightful addition to a warm bath.
Part Two: Warm up the almond oil in a double boiler or hot water bath. Grate the beeswax into the oil and heat until melted. Remove from heat, put in a large mixing bowl and let cool to body temperature. Add the rose hip seed oil and blue chamomile essential oil. Add the borax and the honeysuckle flower essence to the 1 cup of strained herbal infusion and warm to body temperature. Gradually pour herbal-infusion mixture into oil mixture while beating with a handheld electric mixer, (Jean prefers the Braun).
The cream will thicken as it cools and whipping should continue until you can form peaks. Spoon into jars immediately and allow to settle. Let cool completely before capping. Makes about eight 2-oz. jars.
