What can I do to lay the best foundation for a healthy pregnancy?
There is no ideal way of living through pregnancy, so don’t torture yourself or feel guilty if your lifestyle has sometimes fallen short of the mark. Having said that, you need to be aware that these early weeks and months are arguably the most important stages of your pregnancy so taking care of yourself (and your baby) is especially important now. What you do in the first trimester lays the building blocks for your baby’s growth, because this is when all key organ and skeletal development takes place (see pages 172-175); for the growth and development of the placenta, and for your general health in pregnancy.
The best way to help lay these essential foundations is to build up your reserves, both through diet and lifestyle.
